KAMILKAZE display setup

The e-ink display gets online through your phone. Turn on your phone's hotspot with exactly these details, and the display joins by itself within about a minute.

Upper case matters. Keep mobile data switched on.

iPhone

  1. Open Settings → General → About → Name and change it to KAMILKAZE-NET. An iPhone hotspot uses the phone's name as its network name.DE: Einstellungen → Allgemein → Info → Name
  2. Go to Settings → Personal Hotspot and turn on Allow Others to Join.DE: Persönlicher Hotspot → Zugriff für andere erlauben
  3. Tap Wi-Fi Password and enter the password above.DE: WLAN-Passwort
  4. Turn on Maximise Compatibility. The display only uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.DE: Kompatibilität maximieren
  5. Keep the Personal Hotspot screen open until the display connects. iPhones stop showing the hotspot after a while if nothing has joined.
After playing you can change the phone's name back. Set it to KAMILKAZE-NET again next time.

Android

Menu names differ between brands. If you can't find it, search Settings for "hotspot".

  1. Open the hotspot settings.Pixel: Settings → Network & internet → Hotspot & tethering → Wi-Fi hotspotSamsung: Settings → Connections → Mobile Hotspot and Tethering → Mobile Hotspot
  2. Set Hotspot name to KAMILKAZE-NET.
  3. Set Security to WPA2-Personal. If there's no plain WPA2, pick the WPA2/WPA3 option. WPA3 on its own won't work.
  4. Set the password to the one above.
  5. Set Band to 2.4 GHz. On a Pixel, turn on Extend compatibility instead.
  6. If your phone has Turn off hotspot automatically, switch it off.
  7. Switch the hotspot on.

Still not connecting?

The display still shows the setup screen after 2 minutes

Check the name and password letter by letter, including upper case, and make sure 2.4 GHz or compatibility mode is on. Then turn the hotspot off and on again, and hold the phone near the display.

It connected, then dropped

Your phone may have switched the hotspot off to save battery. Turn off automatic hotspot shutdown, and Low Power Mode or battery saver.

Is this safe for my phone?

The display only talks to the KAMILKAZE game server over an encrypted connection and uses very little data. It can't see your files or your other traffic. The password is public on purpose, so switch the hotspot off when you're done.
